Our History
The story of The Ballroom at Bayou Place began with one idea: To create an event venue as striking, dynamic, and inclusive as Houston, the most diverse region in the United States of America. The only building able to tick all the boxes is Bayou Place, located just steps from the city’s founding place on the banks of Buffalo Bayou.
When a space on Bayou Place’s second floor became available in 1997, our team jumped at the opportunity to take that idea from dream to reality. With a 15,000-square-foot floor plan featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and walk-out balconies overlooking Houston’s historic core, it’s the home we’d sought for years.
At that point, The Ballroom at Bayou Place team put its plan in place, and boy, were waves made. Regardless of background, guest list size, budget, and event type, no inquiry was turned away. Everyone was welcomed, and packages were fine-tuned to meet each client’s unique situation.
We Put Our Heart and Soul Into Every Occasion
As the business grew, so did our team. Today, we still have the second-floor venue where it all started – now known as the main ballroom – and a cozy space on the first called Curtain Call. It’s perfect for intimate affairs.

Frequently Asked Questions
We require that you use our in-house catering team or obtain approval from our event team if you require an outside caterer to meet your cultural requirements. This ensures that your event will have an impeccable, full-service catering experience, so every facet of your event meets our standard of service.
Guests will have access to our valet service and Bayou Place sits atop a 4,000 space Theatre District garage, with elevator access directly into the venue.
With more than 15,000 square feet of contiguous space the venue offers a variety of capacity options for both intimate and large-scale events. We can hold seated receptions with a small stage and dance floor for 600 guests or a cocktail reception for 1000+ guests. We are able to also customize the rental area to accommodate more intimate events by renting out a particular area versus the entire venue, such as the Smith Ballroom, Texas Ballroom, or our expansive balconies.
